About us

Who we are, why we're here.

A Cayman-born charity walking alongside families through brain cancer, seizures and neurological illness — filling the spaces hospitals can't reach.

our story

It began with one diagnosis.

In 2024, Oscar DaCosta received a diagnosis that would change the course of his life. Like many families facing neurological illness, he and Melissa found themselves navigating unfamiliar territory with limited local support, often feeling isolated and overwhelmed while managing insurance challenges, preparing wills, and making difficult decisions about the future.

What began as a search for answers became a commitment to helping others. Along the way, they recognized that while neurological conditions often share common challenges, every diagnosis and journey is unique. This understanding led them to expand the support beyond brain cancer, creating a broader community where individuals and families affected by a range of neurological conditions can access guidance, connection, understanding, and hope when they need it most.

FOUNDED IN LOVE. Sustained by community. Forever guided by Oscar’s humour and honouring his memory.

Holding the space

We have onboarded multiple families with varying needs and are working towards our longer-term goals of improving access to support for families in need while strengthening our community.

what drives us

So no one walks this alone.

The Grey Area provides the practical, emotional and financial support that lives outside hospital walls — local, compassionate care for families navigating neurological conditions.

Mission

We bridge the gaps between medical care and the realities of everyday life through advocacy, education, awareness, and support, ensuring no one navigating neurological conditions faces “the grey area” alone.
